Calé

Joaquín Cortés is one of Spain's best loved flamenco performers, and Calé is an exciting musical journey which takes us through his 20 year career as a dancer and portrays his influences, experiences and glories. Cortés has tourned the world with this show, including in the USA, and of course seeing him perfom in Spain, it is going to be a much more special experience. Calé runs at the Teatro Coliseum at Gran Vía 78 (Metro: Plaza de España L3, L10) from 3-14th August beween Weds-Sun and tickets costs from 28,50€.

Suma Flamenca Festival 2011

Estrella Morente, daughter of flamenco legend Enrique Morente who passed away at the end of last year, will on Thursday 9th inaugurate this year's annual Suma Flamenca festival which is organised by the city hall of Madrid. Lasting nearly one month, this is one of the biggest flamenco festivals of its kind in Spain, and the flamenco performed here is a lot more authentic than many of the overpriced shows aimed at tourists. This year's lineup includes greats such as Rocío Molina, Niño Josele and El Cigala. The flamenco shows will take place across a number of venues in Madrid and ticket prices vary. XIX Festival Flamenco Caja Madrid 2011.

Starting this Wednesday 2nd February is a 10 day festival of flamenco held the Teatro Circo Price in inconjunction with Caja Madrid. This year is the event's 19th edition and many of the biggest names in contemporary flamenco such as Carmen Linares, Juan Valderrama and Miguel Poveda, will be performing. Hommage will also be paid to the flamenco legend Enrique Morente, who passed away at the end of 2010. The programme for the event can be seen below:

XIX Festival Flamenco Caja Madrid 2011

If you are going to be in Madrid during the period of the festival, we recommend catching a show as it will be a much more authentic experience (and probably much cheaper!) than the tourist shows. Tickets for the big name performances at Teatro Circo Price will cost from 28€ upwards. There will also be some smaller performances as well as talks and recitals about flamenco music taking place at the Casa Encendida, where tickets cost 5€.

La Casa Encendida and El Teatro Circo Price are opposite each other on Ronda de Atocha (numbers 2 and 35 respectively), just a short hop from Atocha station and the Reina Sofía museum. Metro: Embajadores (L3, L5) or Atocha (L1).

A Postiori: Flamenco for only 8€

Normally in Madrid you have to pay a lot to see some high quality flamenco, but the Teatro Lara in conjunction with LetsBonus is offering a top quality flamenco performance with live music for only 8€ on Tuesday 18th January at 9pm. Flamenco X Tres- Flamenco in Madrid

One of Spain's most famous flamenco dance groups Suite Española is in Madrid to perform in a series of concert to mark their tenth anniversary. The production is called Flamenco X Tres and comprises of three routines está compuesto por: Brishem by Renato Zanella; 72, rue de Belleville, by Ángel Rodríguez and Urdimbre by Ricardo Castro. The performances runs from 27th-31st October at El Teatro de Madrid. It's well worth going to see if you are a lover of flamenco music and dance as it promises to be a stunning performance.
